Leadership Greater Hartford Quest - Class of 2012

This is to let you know the wonderful people who helped this project go from concept to concrete.

Martin Estey:   I am currently program director for the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education devoting most of my time to two projects, Career Beginnings, a high school access program, and Graduate!CT an adult college completion program. Graduate!CT is a program of the MetroHartford Alliance. This project attracted me because it blends an entrepreneurial initiative with social services. I have always admired organizations like Goodwill Industries and Salvation Army in this regard and would like to see more successful, sustaining, socially useful enterprises grow here in Hartford. I am eager to lend a hand in this, from power tools to business planning. I will not, however, be any help when it comes to fashion.

Leslie Sanborn:  I am currently the Director of New Program Development at Oak Hill spending most of my time on trend analysis and strategic planning.  As a mother of four children, three of whom are daughters and having a MSW with a focused area of study in women and children this project was very appealing to me.  I am an organized person who is good at multi-tasking and thrives on challenge.  I am excited to be a part of the team to implement THT Fashions from vision to reality.

Lynne P. Kelleher:  I am a  Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by background. After spending 20 years working in pediatric health care, I transitioned into Human Resources at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. I currently co-manage the employee relation program at the medical center. I am feeling privileged to work with my team and HPA on this project. It interests me in so many ways; a few of these are: the diversity of tasks physical labor to business development, your mission, and the immense challenge. Thank you for this opportunity.

Steven DiBella:  I am a Lieutenant with the Hartford Police Department.  While I thought many of the proposals were worthy, I chose to work on the Hartford Action Plan’s project for three reasons.  For six years I investigated and supervised the investigations of sexually assaulted children within the City of Hartford.  I also supervised Detective Scates for two years while she worked on the Human Trafficking case and I was involved in the take down of the perpetrators.  Finally, I am handy and think I can assist in the completion of the “physical” store.  I believe this is a good cause and I am excited to take part in the opening of a retail store to help those victims.

Peggy Tunick:   I have been working as a social worker, primarily with adolescents, for the past 30 years.   My primary focus has been with at risk adolescents who have experienced a variety of issues that  often are beyond their control.  I am in the process of transitioning into a new position as Director of Programs at AHM Youth and Family Services which will, for the most part, put me in an administrative position.  I feel honored to be able to help create something for young people who have been subjected to horrific things beyond their control.

Suzanne Butler:  I have 23 years of experience working with large corporate organizations that seek to manage healthcare costs and improve employee health through analysis of health and disability claims data.  As a Product Manager, I’m responsible for managing web-based reporting tools, as well as for envisioning, designing and enhancing innovative capabilities that are aligned with corporate goals, customer need, and market direction.  I have a Masters of Public Health from the UCONN Health Center, but haven’t been able to engage this knowledge in my corporate job. This project struck a cord with me for a few reasons.  I’m an analytic person but enjoy using my creative side to solve problems. I like to challenge myself to do something completely new and out of my comfort zone. This project sounds like a combination of both. On a personal note I want to help, even if indirectly, victims that live in our great state of CT.

Andrea Young:  I have worked as a Financial Aid Officer at Goodwin College for the past seven years.  I obtained my undergraduate degree in Business Management from Central Connecticut State University, and my graduate degree in Education/Counseling from Saint Joseph College.  I chose to work on the Hartford Action Plan project because I believe it is an excellent opportunity for me to give back to these young victims in any way I can.  I also believe in your mission which not only encourages positive change in the lives of these young victims, but also provides a solid support system to help them reach their highest potential. I look forward to embarking on this challenge with you.

Kelly Hewes:  I am currently the Director of Product Management for The Hartford’s Retirement Plans Group (RPG), manage retirement income solutions for small to mid-sized businesses. I most recently launched an innovative guaranteed income product that allows participants to build their own “personal pension account,” giving them an income source they cannot outlive. I joined The Hartford in 2006 and prior to this held various product, sales and marketing roles within the financial services industry.  I am a graduate of the University of Connecticut, B.A. Communications and Marketing, and hold Series 7 and 63 licenses.  I am an active PTO member and volunteer for multiple groups, including the Special Olympics and Team Hole in the Wall. I live in Simsbury with my husband Adam and two sons Cedar and Skylar.  I selected the Hartford Action Plan because I want to help build a program from the ground up, create a stronger connection with the Hartford community and most importantly be part of a program that can make a difference in the lives of compromised teenagers.

Yvette Bello, Executive Director, Latino Community Services:  Ms. Bello is focused on identifying health disparities, designing, and implementing quality programs to address the needs of Latinos and other disproportionately affected minority groups within Connecticut.  Currently, Ms. Bello is serving on the Governor's Cabinet on Nonprofit Health and Human Services and is a board member of the Connecticut Associations for Nonprofits board where she actively supports the collective power of nonprofits as we work to address almost ever social issue that affects Connecticut residents.

Joe Bierbaum:  I graduated from Bentley University in 2007 with a BS in Management and in 2010 with an MS in Marketing Analytics and have 7 years experience in the education industry. I chose the Hartford Action Plan project because it will best utilize my background as an entrepreneur and business consultant. I currently work at Stone Academy as the Vice President overseeing the administration and development of the institution. I am also involved in various community and business groups most notably as a Director for the East Hartford Chamber of Commerce and a workgroup member in Bridge To Success.

Jason Roberts:  I have been with Travelers since 2009 and currently serve as a Director for Enterprise Operations Analytics.  At Travelers I work on driving the Operations Strategy as well as meeting the needs of internal clients’ reporting and management information needs. I have an MBA in finance from Boston College, where I was president of my class, and a BA in history from the University of Pennsylvania. I am truly compelled to work on this effort as no person should ever have to be subjected to the atrocities associated with human trafficking. Unfortunately, we live in a world with evil & dangerous individuals and to the extent I can make a positive impact on the lives of the victims of these perpetrators, it would be personally gratifying.

Ryan Kocsondy:  I am a technology professional that works for the University of Connecticut at the Greater Hartford campus overseeing IT operations supporting the faculty, staff and students.  I’m a husband, father (with another on the way), uncle, and enjoy every minute of my family life.  I attend church on a regular basis and am active in the outreach areas for mission trips locally in our community as well as abroad.  I’m hardworking, dedicated, enjoy working with others, and am looking forward to working on this project and the opportunity to help over the next year.

Danielle Smiley:  Program Nutritionist-WIC for the City of Hartford.  Danielle is currently out of the country and was unable to provide a brief bio.
